Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Schemes in Karnataka

Will the Minister of FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING be pleased to state:
(a) the details of Central assistance funds released to the State of Karnataka under the Blue Revolution
Scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and earlier fisheries development
schemes since 2004-05, year-wise;
(b) the total number of beneficiaries, cooperatives and self-help groups supported for inland, marine
and brackish-water fisheries development in Karnataka under Central schemes;
(c) the number and location of veterinary hospitals, dispensaries, mobile veterinary units, artificial
insemination centres and breeding farms established or upgraded in Karnataka;
(d) the total fish production, export value and contribution of Karnataka to country's overall fisheries
sector since 2004-05; and
(e) the details of infrastructure created under PMMSY and other related schemes in coastal districts
Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Karwar, including fishing harbours, fish landing centres,
cold chain facilities and processing units?

(a): The details of central assistance funds released to the Government of Karnataka under the Blue
Revolution Scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and earlier fisheries
development schemes since 2004-05, year-wise are provided at Annexure-I.
(b): Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) implemented by the Department
of Fisheries, Government of India, the end level beneficiaries are identified by the respective State
Governments. The State Government of Karnataka has informed that a total of 4538 beneficiaries
including Cooperatives and Self-Help Groups have been benefitted under inland, marine and brackish-
water fisheries development in Karnataka under the PMMSY during 2020-2025.
(c): The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), GoI has informed that under the
‘Establishment and Strengthening of Veterinary Hospitals and Dispensaries-Mobile Veterinary Units’
(ESVHD-MVU) of Livestock Health and Disease Control Program (LHDCP) financial support is provided
to the States/UTs including Karnataka for operation of Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) to provide
diagnosis, treatment at farmer’s doorstep. It is informed that at present, 697 Veterinary
Hospitals/Polyclinics, 2,176 Veterinary Dispensaries, and 275 Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) are
functioning in the State. Besides, as per information received from the State Government, currently there
are 7119 Artificial insemination centres and 21 Breeding farms in Karnataka.
(d): Karnataka is one of the potential state in terms of fisheries sector and contributes significantly to
the country’s fisheries sector. Government of Karnataka has reported that fish production of Government
of Karnataka has increased from 2.51 lakh tonnes in 2004-2005 to 9.63 lakh tonnes during 2024-25. In
addition, the export value of fish and fisheries products from Karnataka has increased from Rs.76.92 Crore
in 2004-05 to Rs.4048 crore in 2023-24. Currently Karnataka contributes to about 5% to country’s fish
production and about 7% to country’s export value.
(e): Under the PMMSY and other related schemes of GoI, projects are approved based on the
proposals submitted by the respective State Government. As reported by Government of Karnataka, the
details of infrastructure created under PMMSY and other related schemes in coastal districts of Karnataka
