Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

This document summarizes the Indian Ministry of Food Processing Industries' (MoFPI) response to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 3137, answered on August 7, 2025, regarding food processing units in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The MoFPI does not directly establish food processing units but incentivizes their creation through three central sector schemes: Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI), and PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME). These schemes are demand-driven and not region-specific. As of June 30, 2025, in Uttar Pradesh, the MoFPI has approved 75 projects under PMKSY, 27 proposals under PLISFPI, and 17,818 proposals under PMFME. For Bihar, the MoFPI has approved 13 projects under PMKSY, 7 proposals under PLISFPI, and 25,349 proposals under PMFME. The approved projects under these schemes are estimated to have generated approximately 98,589 direct and indirect employment opportunities in Bihar.
