(d) if not, the reasons for non-inclusion and planned timelines for coverage; and
(e) the measures taken by the Government to integrate local communities in afforestation, eco-restoration and nature-based livelihoods in these districts? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE (SHRI KIRTI VARDHAN SINGH)
(a) The National Mission for a Green India (GIM) is one of the nine Missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) and aims to protect, restore and enhance forest and tree cover, while contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation through plantation and ecosystem restoration in identified landscapes with the active participation of local communities. Under the support component of GIM, provision exists for livelihood-based training programmes based on the needs of local communities to strengthen forest-based livelihoods.
(b) to (e) Under the Green India Mission, plantation, restoration and support activities are undertaken based on the approved Perspective Plans and Annual Plans of Operation submitted by the respective States and approved by the National Executive Council. In the State of Madhya Pradesh, as per information provided by the State Government, in the South Panna region about 500 members of Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs) were provided livelihood training during 2025-26 under the support component of GIM. However, no plantation activities have been taken up under GIM during 2025-26 in Katni, Panna or the Khajuraho region.Further, under other schemes being implemented by the State Government, a total area of 8,504 hectares has been treated, benefiting approximately 21,768 households through employment generation and related activities.
Afforestation, eco-restoration and nature-based livelihood activities in the State are implemented through Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs) and other community institutions, ensuring active participation of local communities. These interventions provide livelihood opportunities linked to forestry, eco-restoration, and other allied activities.
