Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to
state:
(a) whether the Government concurs with the view that the country has a unique opportunity
to become a global Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub; and
(b) if so, the details of the initiatives that are proposed to be taken by the Government keeping
in mind that a focused push towards AI could position India as a game changer in AI technology
over the next decade?

(a) and (b): Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming economies, industries and society
globally at unprecedented speed. For India, this presents a unique opportunity to emerge as a
global AI hub.
In line with the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government
is focused on democratising the development and usage of AI technology.
As part of this vision, India is leveraging its strengths in scale, talent, digital public
infrastructure and rapid technology adoption.
India’s Strategic Vision for AI Leadership:
To translate this vision into action, the Government approved the IndiaAI Mission in March
2024. It is designed as a national-level effort to build a comprehensive, inclusive, and
sustainable AI ecosystem.
Seven pillars of AI mission are as follows:
1. IndiaAI Compute Capacity: It aims to provide high-end compute power (GPUs) to
all, including MSMEs and startups, at an affordable cost.
2. IndiaAI Foundation Models: To develop India’s own Large Multimodal Models
(LMMs) trained on Indian datasets and languages. This is to ensure sovereign capability
and global competitiveness in generative AI.
3. AIKosh: To develop large datasets for training AI models. AIKosh is a unified data
platform integrating datasets from government and non-government sources.
4. IndiaAI Application Development Initiative: To develop AI applications for India
specific challenges in sectors such as climate change, healthcare, agriculture,
governance, assistive technologies for learning disabilities, etc.
5. IndiaAI FutureSkills: To develop AI skilled professionals in India by increasing the
number of graduates, post-graduate and PhDs in AI domain. It also envisions setting up
Data and AI Labs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across India.
6. IndiaAI Startup Financing: To provide financial assistance to AI start-ups.7. Safe & Trusted AI: To balance innovation with strong governance frameworks to
ensure responsible AI adoption.
The government has also released the India AI Governance Guidelines, a comprehensive
roadmap for safe, inclusive, and responsible AI use.
India on the Global Stage
India has been active in shaping global AI conversations. It has played key roles at forums such
as the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) where it has served as Council Chair and during its
G20 Presidency in 2023.
More recently, India co-chaired the Paris AI Action Summit with France.
India - AI Impact Summit 2026
India will host the India–AI Impact Summit 2026 from 16–20 February 2026 at New Delhi
• For the first time, the global AI summit series will take place in the Global South. The
shift signals a broader move toward a more inclusive global AI dialogue.
• In the run-up to the Summit, over 200 pre-summit events have already been held
worldwide
• Seven flagship initiatives including pitch fests, innovation challenges (AI for ALL, AI
by HER, YUVAi) and a global research symposium are underway
• Organisers and institutions can propose events to be part of the official Summit agenda
During the Summit, discussions will revolve around seven thematic “Chakras”:
Human Capital, Inclusion, Safe & Trusted AI, Resilience, Innovation and Efficiency,
Democratizing AI Resources, and AI for Economic Development and Social Good.
