GREENFIELD AIRPORT POLICY, 2008

Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION
be pleased to state:-
(a) the status and number of greenfield airports accorded approval under the
Greenfield Airport Policy, 2008 during the last three years across the country,
particularly in Maharashtra including Dhule Lok Sabha Constituency;
b) whether the Government is considering any amendment to the said policy to
incorporate sustainability standards such as carbon-neutral terminals and if so,
the details thereof;
(c) the present status of ongoing airport development projects in Maharashtra;
and
(d) whether there is any proposal to include Dharashiv (Osmanabad) under the
UDAN scheme to promote tourism and improve connectivity in Marathwada
region and if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER
Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar
Mohol)
(a): 'In-Principle' approval under Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy has been
accorded for setting up of three Greenfield airports across the country, viz.
Parandur in Tamil Nadu; Puri in Odisha and Kota in Rajasthan during the last
three years. Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has not received any proposal
seeking approval under GFA Policy for construction of a Greenfield Airport in
Dhule Lok Sabha constituency.
Greenfield airport projects are capital intensive with long gestation periods and
the timeline for completion of the airport projects depends upon many factors
such as land acquisition, availability of mandatory clearances, financial closure
etc.
(b): MoCA has advised all the State Governments/UTs and developers of the
upcoming Greenfield airports to work towards achieving Carbon Neutrality &
Net Zero.(c): The expansion and development of airport infrastructure is a continuous
process and is undertaken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other
Airport Operators from time to time depending on the availability of land,
commercial viability, socio-economic considerations, traffic demand and
willingness of airlines to operate to/from such airports. In the state of
Maharashtra, AAI has taken up works for reconstruction of old Terminal
Building at Pune airport and resurfacing of Runways at Juhu Airport. Further,
Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd. (MADC) has undertaken
construction of New Integrated Terminal Building and associated infrastructure
at Shirdi International Airport and also development of Ratnagiri airport under
RCS-UDAN.
(d): Osmanabad airstrip is available in the tentative list of unserved
airstrips/airports in the UDAN document. No bid has been received for
Osmanabad till completion of 5 rounds of bidding under UDAN. If any valid
bid is received in future for operation of RCS flights connecting this airstrip, the
same shall be considered as per UDAN scheme provisions.
