ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYUSH
(SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV)
(a) Under Ayurgyan Scheme, proposals from the eligible institutions/organizations, across the
country (including from the institutions situated in the state of Maharashtra) are being considered.
Further, under the Research & Innovation in Ayush (R&I) and Ayurveda Biology Integrated
Health Research (ABIHR) components of Ayurgyan Scheme, priority research areas are identified
based on the Research on fundamental concepts and basic principles of Ayush systems,
Standardization of Ayush drugs and formulations, Development and validation of new drugs and
therapeutic interventions. In addition, priority areas also include clinical research, pharmaceutical
research, medicinal plant research, literary research and fundamental research, Integration of
Ayush knowledge with modern scientific disciplines including biotechnology, bio-physics,
molecular biology and information technology.(b) & (e) Under the scheme, financial assistance is provided to the eligible
institutions/organizations across the country, as per the provisions contained in the scheme
guidelines, and the scheme is not specific to any State/UT or region. During the last three years
and current financial year [i.e. FY 2022-23 to 2024-25 and FY 2025-26 (till February 2026)], 267
projects/programmes (i.e. 230 programmes under Capacity Building & Continuing Medical
Education, 26 projects under R&I in Ayush and 11 projects under ABIHR components of
Ayurgyan Scheme) have been approved. Under R&I and ABIHR components, projects are
approved for the period of two (02) to three (03) years and funds are released in instalments. The
year-wise [from FY 2022-23 to 2025-26 (as on 28.02.2026)] details of funds released to the
organizations/institutions (including disbursements for the on-going projects approved prior to FY
2022-23) are attached at Annexure.
(c) Under the Research and Innovation in Ayush and Ayurveda Biology Integrated Health
Research (ABIHR) components, scientific validation of research is ensured through a multi-stage
evaluation and monitoring process. Research proposals are first scrutinized by the concerned
Research Councils and thereafter examined by the Project Appraisal Committee (PAC)/Project
Development and Monitoring Committee (PDMC)/Project Screening and Monitoring Committee
(PSMC) and approved by the Project Sanctioning Committee (PSC). Further, research projects are
commenced only after obtaining ethical approvals. Project monitoring is undertaken through
proper annual appraisal by the PAC under R&I component and by PDMC/PSMC and experts of
Ad Hoc Committee under ABIHR component. Further, withheld 10% of the total approved budget
is released only after publication of research outcome in peer-reviewed journals.
(d) Under the Ayurgyan scheme, premier institutions such All India Institute of Medical
Science (AIIMS), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and State Universities as well as
other institutions/organizations have been financially supported for validation of Ayush
interventions and development of evidence-based treatment protocols. However, development of
region specific or State/UT specific standardized treatment protocol is not one of part of the
scheme objective.
