**Summary:**
This document summarizes the Indian Ministry of External Affairs' response to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 2205, concerning illegal immigration to the UK and USA, answered on August 1, 2025. The Ministry states that the Government of India does not maintain comprehensive data on the number of Indian citizens who have illegally entered the UK, USA, or other foreign countries, or been apprehended there. Information is primarily received from foreign authorities during consular and deportation processes.
The number of Indian nationals deported from the UK between 2020 and 2024 is reported as 311. As of August 1, 2025, 131 Indian nationals have been deported from the UK. The Ministry notes that these figures may not be exhaustive due to direct deportations by the UK government of individuals with valid travel documents and potential underutilization of Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) due to deportation appeals.
The number of Indian nationals deported from the USA between 2020 and 2024 is reported as 5541. As of August 1, 2025, 1703 Indian nationals have been deported from the USA.
The response was provided by Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs. The question was raised by Smt. Mala Roy.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION TO UK AND USA
2205. SMT. MALA ROY
Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
the number of Indians caught in UK and USA for illegal immigration
during last five years, State/UT-wise and year-wise?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
(SHRI KIRTI VARDHAN SINGH)
Government of India does not have firm data on the number of
people who may have entered UK, USA or any other foreign country
via illegal means and routes or been caught there. Data on such
people is only received from the concerned authorities of the
foreign country in the context of consular and deportation
exercises from time to time.
1The number of Indian nationals deported from the UK in the last
five years (2020-2024) is 311. In 2025 (till date), the number of
Indians deported from the UK is 131. The actual numbers may vary
for two reasons – those illegal Indian immigrants in possession of
valid travel documents are deported directly by the Government of
UK. Further, the Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) issued to
illegal Indian immigrants may not be fully utilized as the individuals
may appeal against their deportation.
The number of Indian nationals deported from the USA in the last
five years (2020-2024) is 5541. In 2025 (till date), 1703 Indian
nationals have been deported from the U.S. to India.
