ANSWER पेट(cid:332)ोिलयम और (cid:366)ाकृ ितक गैस मं(cid:361)ालय म(cid:336) रा(cid:475) मं(cid:361)ी ((cid:373)ी सुरेश गोपी) MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS (SHRI SURESH GOPI) (a) to (c): Prices of petrol and diesel in the country are market-determined and the Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) take appropriate decision on pricing of petrol and diesel. Government makes fiscal interventions whenever necessary to calibrate the tax structure applicable for petroleum products. Central Excise duty was reduced by the Central Government by a total of Rs. 13/litre and Rs. 16/litre on petrol and diesel respectively in two tranches in November 2021 and May 2022, which was fully passed on to consumers. In March, 2024, OMCs reduced the retail prices of petrol and diesel by Rs. 2 per litre each. But in April 2025, when excise duty on Petrol and Diesel was increased by Rs. 2 per litre each it was not passed on to consumers. Recently due to the West Asia crisis, international crude oil prices have risen significantly. To protect consumers from its impact, Government has decided to absorb a part of this burden and has reduced the excise duties on petrol and diesel by Rs. 10 per litre each. PSU OMCs have also carried out an intra-state freight rationalisation to reduce price differentials within a state. The impact of increase/decrease in prices of petrol and diesel, including agricultural operations, can be assessed through their impact on inflation measured by Wholesale Price Index (WPI). The combined weightage of Petrol and Diesel in the WPI index is 4.7%. The district wise details of Retail Selling Prices (RSP) of Petrol and Diesel as on 1st April of every year since 2023 in the state of Telangana are given at Annexure. *****Annexure Annexure referred to in reply to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 6285 asked by Dr. Kadiyam Kavya to be answered on 02.04.2026 regarding “Impact of Fluctuations in Fuel Prices”.
