Parliament Question: Impact of PM-KUSUM in De-dieselisation of Farm Mechanisation

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 6157 ANSWERED ON 01.04.2026 IMPACT OF PM-KUSUM IN DE-DIESELISATION OF FARM MECHANISATION 6157. SHRI KONDA VISHWESHWAR REDDY WILL THE MINISTER OF NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY BE PLEASED TO STATE: (a) whether the Government has assessed the impact of the Pradhan Mantri-Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyaan (PM-KUSUM) in de-dieselizing the irrigation sector and plans to extend this renewable energy transition to the broader farm-mechanization segment and if so, the details thereof; (b) whether the Government is taking significant steps to de-dieselize the agricultural sector considering it accounts for 13 per cent of India’s total diesel consumption with tractors and haulage alone contributing nearly 8 per cent and if so, the details thereof; (c) whether there is any proposal to provide subsidies for electric tractors and trucks and to establish the necessary solar-powered e-charging infrastructure across rural India; and (d) if so, the details of incentives planned for domestic industries to manufacture renewable- compatible agricultural vehicles to mainstream these technologies and insulate farmers from global fossil-fuel price volatility? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY AND POWER (SHRI SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK) (a) & (b) The third party evaluation of PM KUSUM has been carried out through M/s PTC India Ltd. The report shows that adoption of solar pumps has led to an increase in farmers’ incomes by around 40%. As per the mandate of MNRE, viz PM KUSUM the Government is targeting end to end solarization of farm sector through accelerated deployment of solar pumps by replacing diesel pumps and carrying out feeder level solarization. Out of the sanctioned capacity of 13.3 lakh pumps under PM KUSUM, more than 10.26 lakh solar pumps are installed, leading to savings of diesel. It is estimated that the installed solar pumps have saved 708 million litres of diesel per annum and mitigate 2.3 million tonnes CO 2 per annum (c) & (d) Although MNRE does not provide any subsidies for electric tractors and trucks, the Ministry of Heavy Industries reportedly has an allocation of Rs.500 crore under the PM E- DRIVE scheme to incentivize 5,643 e-trucks of N2 & N3 category. MHI has notified the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Automobile and Auto Components Industry in India (PLI-Auto Scheme) for enhancing India’s manufacturing capabilities for Advanced Automotive Technology Products with a budgetary outlay of Rs.25,938 crore on 23/09/2021. ****
