IMPACT OF WEST ASIA CONFLICT ON KOVILPATTI PEANUT CANDY MSMEs
1972. SMT. KANIMOZHI KARUNANIDHI:
Will the Minister of MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES be pleased to state:
(a) the total number of registered and operational Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
(MSMEs) units engaged in the manufacture of peanut candy in the Kovilpatti region of Thoothukudi
during the last five years, year-wise;
(b) the number of peanut candy units that have closed down during the last five years, year-wise;
(c) whether the Government is aware that exports of GI-tagged Kovilpatti peanut candy to Gulf
countries have been severely affected due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia and if so, the details
thereof; and
(d) whether the Government has assessed the impact of the ongoing disruption in exports of
Kovilpatti peanut candy, including the number of manufacturers affected, the estimated value of
unsold stock, the number and value of export orders cancelled and the number of workers whose
livelihoods have been impacted and if so, the details thereof?

(a): As per the Udyam Registration Portal, the year-wise number of registered and operational
MSMEs, engaged in the manufacturing of peanut candy, in the Thoothukudi (also known as
Tuticorin) District of Tamil Nadu during the last five years is at Annexure-I.
(b): As per Udyam Registration Portal, no MSMEs engaged in the manufacturing of peanut candy
have closed their activity, in the Thoothukudi (also known as Tuticorin) District of Tamil Nadu.
(c) and (d): The Ministry of MSME has not received any specific representation regarding impact
on exports of GI-tagged Kovilpatti peanut candy. However, Government has launched ECLGS 5.0
on 5th May, 2026 inter alia to provide upto 20% of the peak fund-based working capital to MSMEs
with 100% guarantee cover upto Rs 100 crore per borrower. Out of total outlay of Rs. 2.55 lakh
crores under ECLGS 5.0, Rs. 2 lakh crore is earmarked for MSMEs.
