IMPLEMENTATION AND ASSESSMENT OF PMSGMBY

Will the Minister of NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state:
(a) whether Government has undertaken an assessment of the impact of PM Surya Ghar:
Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) on distributed renewable energy capacity addition,
household electricity savings and reduction of carbon emissions;
(b) if so, the estimated rooftop solar capacity installed and the number of beneficiary
households covered under the scheme so far;
(c) the employment generated in manufacturing, installation, operations and maintenance of
rooftop solar systems;
(d) the extent of private sector and MSME participation enabled through the scheme; and
(e) the roadmap and policy support envisaged for scaling up the scheme to achieve long
term renewable energy, energy security and universal energy-access goals?

(a) &(b) Since the launch of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) in February,
2024, a total of 22,98,251 rooftop solar (RTS) systems with aggregated solar capacity of
8,444.52 MW have been installed across the country, benefitting 28,63,428 households as on
4.2.2026.
Under the PMSG: MBY, it has been estimated that RTS installation in 1 crore households may
produce renewable electricity of 1,000 billion units, which may result in reduction of 720
million ton of CO eq emission during the 25 years of lifetime of the RTS systems.

A total of 12,47,737 beneficiaries has been reported by DISCOMs across the country to receive
zero electricity bill after installation of RTS systems under the scheme during the any
month/billing period, as of December 2025.
(c) With the implementation of PMSG: MBY, it has been estimated that around 17 lakh direct
jobs will be created in manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, sales and installation, O&M
services, financial services, etc.
(d) A total of 24,511 vendors have been registered on the National Portal under the scheme as
on 04.02.2026. Most of these vendors are from private sector and are mainly under MSME
category.(e) The PMSG: MBY launched in February, 2024, aims to achieve RTS installations in one
crore households, adding 30 GW solar capacity in the residential sector by FY 2026-27, with
an outlay of Rs 75,021 crore.
To promote RTS adoption across the country under the PMSG: MBY, facilitating
achievement of long term renewable energy, energy security and universal energy-access
goals, Ministry has taken following policy support measures:
• Online process from registration to disbursal of subsidy directly into the bank account
of the residential consumer through National Portal.
• Availability of collateral free loan from nationalized banks at concessional interest
rate of repo-rate plus 50 bps i.e. 5.75% per annum for the present, with tenure of 10
years.
• Simplified the regulatory approval process by waiving technical feasibility
requirement and introducing auto load enhancement upto 10 kW.
• Included RESCO/ Utility led Aggregation (ULA) Models.
• Net metering agreement has been made part of application in the National Portal.
