Parliament Question: Implementation of PMDDKY in Yavatmal District

SHRI SANJAY UTTAMRAO DESHMUKH: Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ िष एवं िकसान क(cid:670)ाण मं(cid:361)ी be pleased to state: (a) whether Yavatmal district been selected under the Prime Minister’s PMDDKY scheme, if so, the details thereof; (b) the details of the specific works are proposed to be carried out under the above yojana in Yavatmal district and the amount of funds sanctioned; (c) whether the Government taken cognizance of the fact that in January 2026, 25 farmers committed suicide in Yavatmal district; (d) if so, the details of the special measures which are being implemented under PMDDKY scheme to increase farmer's income and make them economically empowered; and (e) the details of the action plan of the Government to ensure increase in agricultural production, minimum support price, irrigation facilities, crop insurance and direct access to markets and the timeline which has been fixed for the implementation of this scheme? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ िष एवं िकसान क(cid:670)ाण रा(cid:475) मं(cid:361)ी (SHRI BHAGIRATH CHOUDHARY) (a): Yes. Yavatmal district has been selected under Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (DDKY). DDKY was approved by the Union Cabinet on 16th July, 2025 for a period of six years, beginning with 2025-26 to cover 100 districts. The scheme aims to enhance agricultural productivity, increase adoption of crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices, augment post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, improve irrigation facilities, and facilitate availability of long-term and short-term credit.The Scheme is being implemented through convergence of 36 existing schemes across 11 Departments, other State schemes and local partnerships with the private sector. The activities in the District Action Plan (DAP) would be through convergence. The DAP is prepared and implemented by District Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana Samiti headed by the District Collector. Comprehensive roadmap for achieving objectives of DDKY including enhancing agricultural productivity, crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices, irrigation facilities and market linkages through convergence are detailed in the DAP of Yavatmal district. (b): In the District Action Plan (DAP), Yavatmal district has proposed improved sowing methods, adoption of improved seeds, promotion of horticulture, construction of storage godowns and promotion of micro-irrigation. Funds for these activities are sourced from convergence of centrally sponsored schemes & State Schemes. (c): The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs compiles and disseminates information on suicides in its publication titled ‘Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India (ADSI)’. The latest report available on NCRB website (https://ncrb.gov.in) is for the year 2023. State Government of Maharashtra has informed that steps to reduce farmer distress have been initiated by the state. (d) & (e): DDKY focuses on improving crop productivity, crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices, augment post-harvest storage infrastructure, improve irrigation facilities, and facilitate availability of long-term and short-term credit. The DAP for Yavatmal has focused on improving agricultural productivity through increase area under Broad Bed Furrow (BBF) technique starting with 40,000 ha in year 1 to 60,000 ha in year 6, focusing on Soil Health Card, distribution of new improved seed varieties to 20,000 beneficiaries in year 1 and enhancing to 45,000 beneficiaries in year 6. To encourage crop diversification and sustainable practices, the District has planned for expanding area under turmeric to 7,500 ha in 6 years, fruits crops such as mango, guava to 3,800 ha in 6 years and also cultivation of chia seeds for crop intensity. The plan covers construction of godowns under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture and other schemes to augment storage infrastructure. Further, the district has proposed to increase area under micro-irrigation to 5,500 ha to improve irrigation facilities. For expanding credit access, the DAP has factored Kisan Credit Card (KCC) coverage to 3,52,943 beneficiaries and long-term credit to 59,172 beneficiaries. *****
