Will the Minister of PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS be pleased to state:
a) whether Indian public sector oil companies and public sector refineries have signed
agreement or deal to import LPG from the United States marking the first structured contract
of United States LPG for the domestic market, if so, the details thereof;
b) the manner in which the said arrangement compares in respect of price and quality with the
LPG imported from the Gulf Countries;
c) the reasons for signing deal with the United States for LPG imports and the impact on cost
escalation due to transportation from the United States;
d) whether the said agreement or deal would cater the ten percent of India’s annual imports of
LPG, if so, the details thereof; and
e) whether the quantum of purchase from Russia has come down because of this agreement
and if so , the details thereof?

(a) to (e) Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat
Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited
(HPCL) have successfully concluded a one-year structured contract to import around 2.2
MTPA of LPG from the United States (US) Gulf Coast for the contract year 2026. This
represents approximately ten percent of India’s annual LPG imports and marks the first such
structured US LPG contract for the Indian market.
Oil and Gas PSEs have been consistently working to secure affordable and reliable LPG
supplies by diversifying sourcing options and reducing reliance on a single region. LPG being
sourced from the United States is equivalent in quality to, and its pricing is competitive to,
the LPG being sourced from Gulf countries.
Presently, there is no contract in place for importing LPG from Russia by PSEs.
