INCIDENTS OF THEFT IN DURGAPUR STEEL PLANT
3750. SHRI AZAD KIRTI JHA:
Will the Minister of STEEL be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware of incidents involving the theft of valuable scrap,
steel plates and other steel materials from the Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) of the SAIL,
if so, the year wise and incident-wise details thereof during the last three years;
(b) the total quantity of material (in tonnes) stolen from the plant during the said period
and the estimated financial loss caused to SAIL;
(c) whether any inquiry/investigation has been conducted by SAIL, the Ministry, or any
other agency into these incidents, if so, the major findings of such investigation;
(d) whether the investigation has revealed the involvement of any officials/employees
of the DSP management, contractors, or the CISF, if so, the action taken against the
persons found responsible; and
(e) the concrete measures taken by the Government to prevent future theft of valuable
scrap steel materials, strengthen security arrangements and ensure greater
accountability?

(a)to(e): Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) deploys comprehensive security
and monitoring systems across its Plants/Units which includes CCTV surveillance,
with GPS-enabled vehicle tracking system and round-the-clock security at the
designated entry and exit point to prevent the incidents of theft. As per the information
available with SAIL, no incidents of theft involving valuable scrap, steel plates, or
other steel materials have been recorded at Durgapur Steel Plant during the last three
years.
