GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2534 TO BE ANSWERED ON 13/03/2026 INCREASE IN NUMBER OF SHGS UNDER DAY-NRLM IN BIHAR 2534 Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha: Will the Minister of Rural Development be pleased to state: (a) whether there has been a significant increase in the number and financial viability of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Bihar under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM); (b) if so, the details thereof along with the available data in this regard; and (c) the targets set for the future? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT (DR. CHANDRA SEKHAR PEMMASANI) (a) & (b): The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) across the country, including in the State of Bihar, with the objective of mobilising rural poor women into Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and promoting their financial inclusion and livelihood opportunities. Further, the number of women SHGs in Bihar has increased significantly. In 2013-14, Bihar had mobilised 1.43 lakh SHGs and onwards, large-scale mobilisation was initiated by 2023-24; a total of 10.97 lakh SHGs were formed, covering 1.27 crore households, thereby achieving the target of 1.23 crore households. (c): Mobilisation of women from rural households into the SHG fold is a continuous process and is based on the community's needs. DAY-NRLM Mission has already mobilised 1.27 crore women from rural households into 10.97 lakh SHGs as on 31st January 2026 in the state of Bihar. ***** Page 1 of 1
