ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT
(DR. CHANDRA SEKHAR PEMMASANI)
(a) & (b): The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing the Deendayal Antyodaya
Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) across the country, including in the
State of Bihar, with the objective of mobilising rural poor women into Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
and promoting their financial inclusion and livelihood opportunities. Further, the number of
women SHGs in Bihar has increased significantly. In 2013-14, Bihar had mobilised 1.43 lakh
SHGs and onwards, large-scale mobilisation was initiated by 2023-24; a total of 10.97 lakh
SHGs were formed, covering 1.27 crore households, thereby achieving the target of 1.23
crore households.
(c): Mobilisation of women from rural households into the SHG fold is a continuous process
and is based on the community's needs. DAY-NRLM Mission has already mobilised 1.27 crore
women from rural households into 10.97 lakh SHGs as on 31st January 2026 in the state of
Bihar.
