MAJOR PROJECTS UNDER THE SAGARMALA PROGRAMME
3679. SHRI IMRAN PRATAPGARHI:
Will the Minister of PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS be pleased to state:
(a) the present status of Sagarmala Programme and major projects completed/under
implementation under the Programme;
(b) the details of new port infrastructure capacity created and the reduction in logistics
cost achieved so far; and
(c) the estimated direct and indirect employment generation from Sagarmala projects
during the last five years and the projection for the next five years?

(a) Under Sagarmala programme,315 projects have been completed, 210 projects are
under implementation and 320 projects are in planning stage.
(b) Under Sagarmala programme, 120 port modernisation projects have been completed
adding to new port capacity of more than 400MTPA, while 106 completed projects of road
and rail connectivity have strengthened cargo evacuation efficiency. These interventions have
resulted inincrease of coastal shipping cargo to 195 MTPA from 87 MTPA (118%),inland
waterway cargo to 145.50 MTPA from 18.10 MTPA (700%) and reduction in logistics cost
by shift of freight to waterways.
(c) Sagarmala programme has estimated a cumulative employment potential of 1 crore
new jobs, comprising 40 lakh direct and 60 lakh indirect roles derived from port-led
industrialization and infrastructure development.
