Parliament Question: Management of Borders

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2704 TO BE ANSWERED ON THE 4TH AUGUST, 2026/ SHRAVANA 13, 1948 (SAKA) MANAGEMENT OF BORDERS †2704. SHRI ANIL YESHWANT DESAI Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether it is the responsibility of the Government to see that no person should cross our border without proper authorization; (b) if so, the role of Para-military forces in this task; (c) whether the presence of large number of illegal people in the country shows negligence on the part of our authorities responsible for management of our borders; and (d) if so, the action taken by Government on the above and if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI NITYANAND RAI) (a) to (d) : The Government of India has undertaken several measures to curb cross-border infiltration along international borders. The Government of India, through its border guarding forces (BGFs), has adopted a multi-pronged approach to curb cross-border infiltration such as:-2- L.S.US.Q.NO. 2704 FOR 04.08.2026 • Enhanced Border Surveillance: Deployment of advanced surveillance equipment such as CCTV, drones, automatic number plate recognition systems. • Strengthening Border Infrastructure: Development of fencing, border outposts, roads, and helipads to enhance vigilance and mobility of security forces. • Regular Patrolling & Checkpoints: Intensified area domination through patrolling, Naka points, and mobile teams to monitor illegal activities. • Intelligence & Coordination: Close collaboration between intelligence agencies and other organizations for real-time information sharing through established platforms. • Regulated Cross-Border Movement: Identification and management of designated entry/exit points to ensure controlled movement of people and goods. • Community Engagement & Awareness: Programs to educate border residents and discourage them from aiding illegal activities. • Cross-Border Cooperation: Coordination with neighbouring countries through meetings and joint initiatives to strengthen enforcement measures. *****
