MILK PRODUCTION
3736. SHRI ANIL YESHWANT DESAI:
Will the Minister of FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING
मत्स्यपालन, पशुपालन और डये री मंत्री
be pleased to state:
(a) the number of farmers engaged in animal husbandry or livestock farming apart from cultivation;
(b) the amount of milk production in the country and the domestic demand for the same;
(c) whether any loan or financing facilities also there for cow and buffalo husbandry in the country, if so, the
details thereof;
(d) the number of farmers who have received loan for animal husbandry during last five years; and
(e) whether excess milk and milk products are also exported from the country, if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING
(SHRI RAJIV RANJAN SINGH ALIAS LALAN SINGH)
(a) As per the 20th Livestock Census, household having total livestock (animal and poultry) (including
household enterprise & non-household enterprise) in the country is 11.01 crore.
(b) The total estimated milk production in the country was 247.87 million tonnes in 2024-25 and as per
the Working Group Report on ‘Crop Husbandry, Agriculture Inputs, Demand & Supply’ submitted in 2024 of
NITI Aayog, the projected total milk demand (household and others) in India under Business-as-Usual (BAU)
scenario was 243 million tonnes for 2025-26.
(c) Government has extended the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) facility to Animal Husbandry Farmers vide
Reserve Bank of India’s circular dated 04.02.2019.
(d) The number of farmers who have received loan from KCC for animal husbandry during the last five
years are -
