Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Modified Scheme for semiconductor manufacturing includes provisions to promote eco-friendly
and sustainable production practices and if so, the details thereof including any environmental safeguards
mandated under the fiscal support framework;
(b) the details of the role played by the National e-Waste Management Policy in promoting the recycling of
semiconductor materials and reducing toxic waste along with the outcomes achieved so far;
(c) whether the Government has put in place any monitoring mechanisms to assess and report harmful chemical
exposure to workers in semiconductor manufacturing units and if so, the standards or permissible exposure limits
set for such chemicals and the extent to which these are enforced; and
(d) whether any semiconductor manufacturing projects supported under the scheme are currently being
developed or proposed in Tamil Nadu and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): The Government has approved the ‘Semicon India Programme’ with a total outlay of
₹76,000 crore for the development of a semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in the
country. In a short span of three years, it has attracted investment of nearly 1.55 Lakh Cr. Six projects
have been approved and the construction of these units is progressing rapidly.
The units approved under the Semicon India program have to follow environment laws and waste water
management obligations under applicable laws.
In Tamil Nadu, the Government of India is supporting total of nine (9) companies under Design Linked
Incentive scheme. Further, under Chips to Start-up programme(C2S), ten (10) institutes are approved
for fiscal support and forty three (43) institutes are approved for design infrastructure support.
