The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways addressed Unstarred Question No. 1069 regarding Narayani River Front Development. Fairway development, including a hydrographic survey on National Waterway 37 (NW-37, River Gandak), was conducted in fiscal years 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20 at a total cost of Rs. 5.32 crore, Rs. 7.59 crore, and Rs. 8.49 crore, respectively. Updating the Detailed Project Report of NW-37 (River Gandak) was entrusted to M/s Rail India Technical and Economic Service Ltd. Two Ghats were completed on the Narayani River in Gopalganj, Bihar, in July 2021 under the Namami Gange Programme at a cost of Rs. 8.25 crore and handed over to urban local bodies. Country boats are currently used for fishing and transporting local goods and agricultural products. Two jetties, costing Rs. 3 crore, have been placed on NW-37 (River Gandak) near Mangalpur (Nautan) and its opposite bank in Bettiah to facilitate inland waterways transport.

(a) whether the Government has initiated hydro graphic survey to assess the navigational
depth and for providing floating jetties along the National Waterways 37 (NW-37);
(b) if so, the details of development of the Narayani River Front in District Gopalganj of
Bihar during the last five years;
(c) whether the Government has started development of Narayani River Front and
currently country boats are running for fishing, movement of local goods and agro
products at Narayani River Front, if so, the details thereof; and
d) whether it is fact that to facilitate the local movement, two floating jetties have been
constructed for placement near Bettiah and its opposite bank in Bihar on NW-37, if so,
the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Fairway development work including Hydrographic survey on NW-37 (River
Gandak) had been carried in Financial Year 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 at total cost of
Rs. 5.32 crore, Rs. 7.59 crore and Rs. 8.49 crore respectively. Further, work of updating
Detailed Project Report of NW-37 (River Gandak) has been entrusted to M/s Rail India
Technical and Economic Service Ltd.
