NATIONAL BAMBOO MISSION

Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ(cid:874)ष एव ं (cid:873)कसान

(a) the details of the National Bamboo Mission being implemented by the
Government;
(b) the details of the beneficiaries benefited under this Mission implemented by the
Government to promote bamboo cultivation in the country, State and year-wise;
(c) whether any research has been conducted by the Government regarding
bamboo cultivation on desert land;
(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(e) whether any steps have been taken by the Government to promote bamboo
cultivation under the National Bamboo Mission in the State of Rajasthan; and
(f) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): The restructured National Bamboo Mission (NBM) has been launched as a
Centrally Sponsored Scheme in 2018-19. It focuses on developing the entire bamboo
value chain, linking growers with consumers through planting material, plantation,
collection, aggregation, processing, marketing and brand-building initiatives in a
cluster approach. The scheme is being implemented in non-forest Government land,
private farmer’s field and also in Patta land of Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006.
(b): As per the information provided by the State Governments, the details of
beneficiaries, State wise and year wise is at annexure-I(c) & (d): The Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agriculture University (SKRAU),
Bikaner, Rajasthan has conducted research on bamboo cultivation under arid agro-
climatic conditions (desert land). The research focused on the identification of suitable
bamboo species and optimum plant spacing for arid ecosystems conditions,
evaluation of drip/micro-irrigation and fertigation techniques, propagation through
seed and vegetative methods and assessment of plant growth parameters under arid
conditions.
The research findings indicate that species such as Bambusa balcooa is more
suitable followed by Dendrocalamus hamiltonii and certain other drought-tolerant
species. Bambusa vulgaris, Bambusa ventricose, Bambusa bambos, Dendrocalamus
strictus and Bambusa nutans have shown adaptability under limited irrigation and
suitable management practices in arid and semi-arid regions.
(e) & (f): The National Bamboo Mission is operational in Rajasthan from the financial
year 2025-26. An annual action plan for an amount of Rs. 303.79 lakh has been
approved during FY 2026-27 for bamboo plantation and other activities.Annexure to the Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 3748 due for answer on
