D K ARUNA: SHRI ANURAG SHARMA: SHRI AMARSING TISSO: Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ(cid:874)ष एवं (cid:873)कसान क(cid:227)याण म(cid:287)ं ी be pleased to state (a) whether the Government is implementing the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) and if so, the salient features and objectives thereof; (b) the details of projects sanctioned and funds allocated for the North Eastern Region under the Mission during the last three years in the country, State/UT-wise particularly in Assam in North Eastern Region and Telangana; (c) the steps taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to increase honey production, promote scientific beekeeping, strengthen pollination services, improve quality standards and enhance farmers' income through beekeeping activities; (d) the number of bee colonies and beekeepers registered on the Madhukranti Portal under the Mission, State/UT-wise including Telangana; (e) the total number of projects sanctioned and the funds allocated, released and utilised under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission since its inception, State/UT-wise; (f) the outcome of the Mission in terms of honey production, employment generation and export promotion; and (g) whether Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts of Assam have been covered under the Mission and, if so, the details of projects sanctioned, beneficiaries covered and financial assistance provided therein? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृ(cid:874)ष एव ं(cid:873)कसान क(cid:227)याण रा(cid:207)य म(cid:287)ं ी (SHRI RAM NATH THAKUR) (a) Yes. Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) is implementing National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) a Central Sector Scheme through National Bee Board (NBB). The objectives of NBHM are to promote scientific beekeeping for holisticgrowth of beekeeping industry, increasing production of honey and beehive products, income & employment generation, providing livelihood support to farm and non-farm households, women empowerment through beekeeping, to strengthen beekeepers by developing institutional framework through collective approach and to enhance agriculture/ horticulture production. Under the scheme project based assistance is provided to eligible Implementing Agencies (IAs) for various activities. These include setting up of Integrated Beekeeping Development Centers, honey testing labs, bee disease diagnostic labs, Quality Nucleus Stock Development Centre, capacity building, technology demonstration, empowerment of women through beekeeping etc. NBHM also supports marketing, branding, value addition and Research & Development. So far 7 world class honey testing labs, 66 mini labs to check adulteration, 83 honey processing units and 90 collection, branding & packaging units have been established. These support efficient storage and marketing. 81 Quality Nucleus Stock Development Centres have been supported for producing quality queen bees and colony multiplication so far. (d) 24,94,101 bee colonies have been registered by 16,788 beekeepers on Madukranti Portal. These include 8,275 registered bee colonies by 65 beekeepers from Telangana. State /UT wise information is given at Annexure-I. (e) Total number of projects sanctioned, funds sanctioned and utilized under NBHM State/ UT wise is given at Annexure-II.(f) NBHM has transformed the largely unorganized beekeeping sector into a technology- driven, market-oriented industry, enhancing income of small and marginal farmers/ beekeepers. Honey production increased from 80,530 MT in 2014–15 to 1,51,690 MT in 2025– 26 (as per Horticulture Crops Statistics, 2nd Advance Estimates 2025–26). During the same period, honey exports increased from 29,600 MT in 2014–15 to 114,570.19 MT in 2025–26, making India the world's second-largest exporter of natural honey.
