ANSWER THE MINISTER OF FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (SHRI CHIRAG PASWAN) (a) to (c): In order to promote food processing sector in the Eastern region, steps have been initiated to set up a National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) in Bihar. The State Government of Bihar has accorded ‘in-principle’ approval for transfer of 100 acres of land, free of cost, at Rajapakar (Jafarpatti), in district Vaishali, Bihar, to the Ministry of Food Processing Industries for setting up of the Institute. Bihar Infrastructure Development Authority has been authorized to identify the land parcel for the NIFTEM. (d): So far, no fund allocation and expenditure has been incurred by the Government of India for this purpose. (e): The timeline for setting up NIFTEM in Bihar is contingent upon the formal transfer of land by the State Government and the approval of the Detailed Project Report, both of which are yet to be completed. The establishment of the proposed institute will promote academics, research, innovation, value addition and incubation support in food processing, generate direct and indirect employment and overall boost the food processing ecosystem across Bihar and the Eastern region. *****
