Will the Minister of MINORITY AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that minority students are unable to submit fresh applications or apply for renewals on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) during the last three years for the scholarships provided by the Union Government to economically weaker students belonging to minority communities and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government is aware that due to the non-receipt of the scholarship amount, a large number of students from economically weaker minority communities have to leave their studies midway owing to their inability to pay the fees and if so, the details thereof; and
(c) whether the Government proposes to provide any other financial assistance to the students who have not received scholarship during the last three years, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF MINORITY AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU)
(a) and (b): The Ministry of Minority Affairs implemented the following scholarship schemes for the educational empowerment of students belonging to the six centrally notified minority communities, namely Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis:
(i) Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme;
(ii) Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme; and
(iii) Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme.
The schemes were implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) with Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to eligible beneficiaries. The schemes were implemented up to the academic year 2021-22 and were not approved for implementation beyond 2021-22.
(c): There is no proposal under consideration. *****
