Parliament Question: Nuclear Power Projects in Rajasthan

SHRI BRIJENDRA SINGH OLA SHRI RAHUL KASWAN SMT SANJNA JATAV Will the PRIME MINISTER be pleased to state:- (a) the details of nuclear power projects operating and under construction in Rajasthan including their installed capacity, current power generation, units under construction and proposed new projects; (b) whether the Government has conducted any independent assessment of the impact of nuclear power projects in Rajasthan on local employment, skill development, industrial investment, infrastructure and regional economic development and if so, the details and the findings thereof; (c) whether the Government has conducted any study on the potential for developing Rajasthan as national hub for nuclear manufacturing, nuclear research and nuclear skill development and if so, the details thereof; and (d) whether the Government proposes to formulate any special action plan to integrate local industries, MSMEs and educational institutions with future nuclear power projects in Rajasthan and if so, the details thereof? JITENDRA SINGH) (a) The details of nuclear power plants in operation, under implementation and proposed in the state of Rajasthan are tabulated below: Nuclear Power Plants/ Projects Capacity (MW) Operating Nuclear Power Plants RAPS-2 1 X 200 RAPS-3&4 2 X 220 RAPS-5&6 2 X 220 RAPP-7 1 X 700 Nuclear Power Projects under Construction/ Commissioning RAPP-8 1 X 700 Nuclear Power Projects under Pre-project activities MBRAPP-1&2 2 X 700 MBRAPP-3&4 2 X 700 Proposed Nuclear Power Projects RAPP-9&10 2 X 700(b) NPCIL has carried out comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies in the study zone of 30 Kms around Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP) site and Rawatbhata Rajasthan Site in the state of Rajasthan. The studies included assessment of the impact due to Nuclear Power Plants/ Projects on Socio Economic Environment comprising of demographic profile, employment, skill development, infrastructure etc. These studies concluded that Nuclear Power Plants/ Projects have positive impact on the social and economic status of the people living in the vicinity of these sites with increased employment opportunities, industrialization potential, skill diversification and improved infrastructure, health & educational facilities besides overall community development. (c) & (d) While there is no special action plan for Rajasthan, the Government has enacted the SHANTI Act to enable wider participation in nuclear power, both by public and private sector. Once the rules are framed under SHANTI Act, 2025, it is open for the local industries, MSMEs and educational institutions to participate in nuclear program. *****
