GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2915 ANSWERED ON 05.08.2026 PM-SGMBY IN WEST BENGAL 2915. SHRI RAJU BISTA Will the Minister of NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state: (a) the number of households registered under the Pradhan Mantri-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY) in the country, State and district-wise for West Bengal; (b) the number of households where solar panels have been installed under PM-SGMBY, district-wise for West Bengal particularly in Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Uttar Dinajpur districts; (c) the targeted number of households likely to be registered under this yojana in West Bengal, district-wise; (d) the quantum of electricity generated under this yojana; and (e) whether urban and rural areas with high electricity demand are being prioritized for the yojana and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY AND POWER (SHRI SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK) (a) to (e) The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) is a demand-driven scheme wherein all residential consumers in the country including urban and rural areas with high electricity demand, having a grid-connected electricity connection with the local DISCOM, can avail the benefits of the scheme, for installation of RTS systems by applying on the National Portal (www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in) of the scheme. Under the scheme, since its launch in February 2024, a total of 76,81,382 applications have been received, 41,19,791 rooftop solar (RTS) systems have been installed, benefitting 49,62,050 households across the country, as on 31.07.2026. The state/UT-wise details are placed at Annexure I. Similarly, Under the scheme, since its launch in February 2024, a total of 3403 RTS systems have been installed, benefitting 3818 households in the State of West Bengal, as on 31.07.2026. The District-wise details including for the Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Uttar Dinajpur districts are placed at Annexure II. The state Government of West Bengal in the budget for 2026-27, has announced a target of 2 lakh RTS systems installation in the state under the PMSG: MBY.
