Parliament Question: PMKVY Training Centres in Tamil Nadu

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 57 ANSWERED ON – 20.07.2026 PMKVY TRAINING CENTRES IN TAMIL NADU 57. SHRI MURASOLI S: Will the Minister of SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP be pleased to state: (a) the total number of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) training centres functional in Tamil Nadu, district-wise; (b) the total number of candidates trained and placed under PMKVY in Thanjavur district during the last three years and the current year; (c) whether any new Industrial Training Institute (ITI) upgradation or establishment of Skill Hub has been proposed for Thanjavur and if so, the timeline thereof; and (d) if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) IN THE MINISTRY OF SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP (SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY) (a) The current version of the PMKVY i.e. PMKVY 4.0 is a demand driven Scheme and training centres under this scheme are affiliated and accredited based on the skill requirement of individual districts. As of 30th June 2026, a total of 10 training centres are operational in Tamil Nadu under PMKVY 4.0, imparting skill training in accordance with local industry demand, as detailed at Annexure. (b) The total number of candidates trained under PMKVY 4.0 in Thanjavur district during the last three FYs and current FY are as under: FY Total Trained/Oriented Candidates FY-23-24 779 FY-24-25 2,658 FY-25-26 1,500 FY-26-27 0* Total 4,937 * PMKVY is a demand-driven scheme. In the FY 2026-27, the Ministry has not received any valid proposal for skill training in Tanjavur District. Under PMKVY, placements were tracked in the Short-Term Training (STT) component in the first three versions of the Scheme which is PMKVY 1.0, PMKVY 2.0 and PMKVY 3.0 implemented from FY 2015-16 to FY 2021-22. Under PMKVY 4.0 which is under implementation since FY 2022-23, the focus is to empower trained candidates to choose their varied career path and they are suitably oriented for the same through On-Job Training (OJT) embedded industry relevant skill courses. (c) & (d) The State Government of Tamil Nadu has identified ITI Tanjavur as spoke ITI and has floated a Request for Proposal (RFP) for inviting industry proposals. So far no response has been received from any industry partner against the RFP. At present, no proposal or Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) from the State is pending for consideration or approval before the National Steering Committee (NSC). Further, Skill Hub was an initiative by Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship where available infrastructure of educational institutions is leveraged for providing skill training under PMKVY. Presently, under PMKVY 4.0, training centres are affiliated and accredited based on the skill requirement of the particular districts.Annexure ANNEXURE REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) OF LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 57 ANSWERED ON 20.07.2026.
