GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 6161 ANSWERED ON 01.04.2026 POLICY TO PROMOTE SOLARISATION OF CARPORTS 6161. SHRI DAGGUMALLA PRASADA RAO: Will the Minister of NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government proposes to introduce policy measures or financial incentives to promote the solarisation of carports and parking lots across the country; (b) if so, the details of the proposed initiatives including implementation framework and expected contribution to the national renewable energy capacity; (c) whether any pilot projects or feasibility studies have been undertaken in collaboration with State Governments or private entities to assess the potential for such solar infrastructure; and (d) whether the Government intends to integrate solarised carports and parking lots with Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure to promote clean mobility and optimal land use and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY AND POWER (SHRI SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK) (a) to (d) Presently, there is no proposal under consideration in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to introduce specific policy measures or financial incentives to promote the solarisation of carports and parking lots across the country. However, under the Scheme for Solarisation of sun-temple town of Modhera, approved by MNRE in March 2020, a solar carport has been set-up at Modhera village. In addition, solar carports have also been set up in the country by various agencies. Details, based on the information received in this regard, are given in Annexure. In addition, MNRE is implementing PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) across the country, since February, 2024. Under the Scheme, financial support is being provided to Group Housing Societies/ Residential Welfare Associations to install solar rooftop solar plants for common facilities covering EV charging including through solar carports. *****Annexure referred to in reply of parts (a) to (d) of the Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 6161 to be answered on 01.04.2026 regarding Policy to Promote Solarisation of Carports. Details of various solar carports set up across the country (based on the information received from various agencies) 1. Chandigarh: A total of 3745 KW capacity of solar carport has been set up at 22 sites in the UT of Chandigarh. 2. Gujarat: Road and Building Department of Government of Gujarat has setup one solar carport at parking lot of Sachivalay, Sardar Bhavan in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Convergence Energy Service Limited (CESL) has set-up a Solar Carport with BESS (50 kWp + 200 kWh) at Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat. 3. Jharkhand: Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA) has installed 2 MW solar carport at the Jharkhand High Court premises. 4. Ladakh: CESL has set-up a Solar Carport with BESS (110 kWp + 860 kWh) at Leh.
