be pleased to state :
(a) the details of employment generated in the textile and apparel sector during the last three
years;
(b) whether employment has increased after the implementation of the Production Linked
Incentive (PLI) Scheme; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?

QUESTION NO. *23 FOR 21.07.2026 REGARDING PRODUCTION LINKED
INCENTIVE SCHEME TABLED BY SMT. JUNE MALIAH.
(a): The textile industry is one of the largest sources of employment in the country, as
derived from Periodic Labour Force Survey, a total of 4.91cr. workers were engaged in textiles
and apparel during 2023-24, thereby showing an increase of 16% over 2021-22. In order to
generate employment opportunities in the textile sector Government has implemented various
schemes/programmes like SAMARTH (Scheme for Capacity Building in the Textiles Sector),
National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP), National Handicrafts Development
Programme (NHDP), National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), PM-Mega Integrated
Textiles and Apparel Park (PM-MITRA) scheme, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme
etc. during the last three years.
(b) & (c): Yes, the PLI Scheme for Textiles has contributed to employment generation by
encouraging investments in the manufacture of MMF Apparel, MMF Fabrics and Technical
Textiles. As per the progress reported by the participating companies, cumulative employment of
33,427 persons has been generated under the Scheme till 31st March 2026.
