(a) whether any proposals have been received under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM),
particularly under the Indigenous Manufacturing component from Tiruppur and Erode regions;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the current status of such proposals;
(c) whether the Government is aware that Tiruppur, possesses the necessary ecosystem to diversify into
sports-tech textiles, if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether steps, such as cluster programmes or cooperative initiatives are being undertaken to promote
this under the NTTM;
(e) whether any diversification programmes under NTTM are being considered based on the region’s
existing textile capabilities, if so, the details thereof; and
(f) whether the Government is planning to promote agro-tech and pack-tech textile production in Erode, if
so, the details thereof?

ON PROGRAMMES UNDER NTTM.
(a) & (b): National Mission on Technical Textiles was launched in 2020 with a financial outlay of
Rs. 1,480 Crore with major focus on Research, Innovation and Development; Promotion and Market
Development; Export Promotion; and Education, Training & Skill Development.
Govt. of India has approved two proposals from Tiruppur and Erode, under the Grant for Research and
Entrepreneurship Across Aspiring Innovator in Technical Textiles (GREAT) Scheme of NTTM. The
project approved in Tiruppur is on “Design and Development of pilot scale innovative Zero Solid
Discharge (ZSD) system for resource recovery from final residue in textile and industrial ZLD
plants (circularity & sustainability)”. The other approved project is in Erode region on “Natural Anti-
Microbial Coated textiles for Hospitals wear”.
In addition, twelve Research Projects and two Start-ups Project have been sanctioned at various
locations in the State of Tamil Nadu. Twelve (12) educational institutions across Tamil Nadu have been
extended support for the introduction of technical textile-related subjects in their curriculum under the
National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM).
(c): Under the National Technical Textile Mission, six (06) research projects have been approved in
Sports Textiles, out of which one project has been approved in Tamil Nadu. Besides this out of 42
manufacturing units of technical textiles approved under Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for
Textiles, four (04) units are working in sports textiles segment, of which, two (02) units are based in
Tamil Nadu. Tiruppur is recognised as one of the prominent textile clusters in the country. The cluster has
demonstrated significant capabilities in textile manufacturing and export. NTTM is a Pan India Mission to
promote all 12 segments of technical textiles across India including clusters in Erode and Tiruppur.
(d) & (e): Ministry of Textiles has established eight (08) Centers of Excellence in thrust areas of
technical textiles across India. These Centers of Excellence act as one stop shop for the respective
segment and are also entrusted to carryout cluster programmes / cooperative initiatives. One such center
i.e. South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) is situated in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, which is
also catering to Erode & Tiruppur, besides providing services to Industry across India.
Under the ‘Promotion and Market Development’ component of the NTTM, seminars, conferences, and
outreach programmes are organised across the country, including in the State of Tamil Nadu, to create
awareness regarding the potential of the rapidly growing technical textiles sector and to highlight
emerging opportunities for industry stakeholders. Since the launch of NTTM in March 2020, a total of 32
such promotional and awareness programmes have been conducted across the country including 02 in
the State of Tamil Nadu.(f): Under the National Technical Textiles Mission, 12 segments of technical textiles are being
actively promoted, including Agro-tech and Pack-tech to enhance productivity and efficiency. Fourteen
(14) Research Projects in Agrotech and one (01) Research Project in Packtech have been approved under
NTTM. Out of which, one project has been approved in Tamil Nadu in Agrotech segment. Further, under
Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles, a total of 06 manufacturing units have been
approved under the Agrotech Segment. Further SASMIRA, Mumbai is Center of Excellence established
for Agrotextiles, which is catering to Industry across India. NTTM is Pan India Mission to promote
technical textiles in India including Erode and the industry can avail comprehensive support provided
under NTTM for all segments of technical textiles, including Agrotextiles and Packtech for research and
innovation, market promotion, skill development, and education.
