GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1668 TO BE ANSWERED ON: 13.02.2026 PROGRESS OF INDIAAI MISSION 1668. SHRI SATNAM SINGH SANDHU: Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state: (a) the total funds allocated and released under the IndiaAI Mission since its approval in March 2024, year-wise and pillar-wise; (b) the details of deployment of the announced 38,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), including their geographical distribution, institutional access and utilisation levels; (c) the criteria adopted to provide subsidised GPU access at ₹65 per hour and the number of Startups, academic institutions and Government agencies benefitted so far; and (d) the measurable outcomes achieved under the Mission in terms of research outputs, applications developed and public service delivery improvements? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI JITIN PRASADA) (a) to (d): India’s AI strategy is based on the Hon’ble Prime Minister's vision to democratize the use of technology. It aims to address India centric challenges, create economic and employment opportunities for all Indians. IndiaAI Mission: In March 2024, Government of India launched IndiaAI mission with outlay of Rs 10,372 Cr for development of the overall AI ecosystem in the country. In less than 24 months, India AI Mission has set up a foundation for development of AI ecosystem in the country: • More than 38 thousand GPUs for common compute facility have been onboarded, which are being provided to Indian start-ups and academia at an affordable rate. • Twelve teams have been shortlisted for development of indigenous foundational models or Large Language Models. • Thirty applications have been approved for developing India specific AI applications. • More than eight thousand undergraduate students, five thousand post graduate students and five hundred PhD students are supported for talent development. • 27 India Data and AI labs have been established and 543 more have been identified.The implementation of ‘IndiaAI Mission’ is with a total outlay of Rs. 10,371.92 Cr for a period of 5 years. At present, all such AI service providers are MeitY-empaneled Cloud Service Providers, with data centres situated in cities such as Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Noida and Jamnagar. • The IndiaAI Compute Portal (https://compute.indiaai.gov.in) has been developed to enable discovery, access and utilisation of the empanelled AI cloud services. • IndiaAI has notified an End User Policy governing access to GPU resources and subsidy allocation. Eligible end users include startups, MSMEs, researchers, academic institutions, students and Government entities.• As on date, AI compute resources are being availed by 114 academic researchers, 47 startups and MSMEs, 8 IndiaAI Fellows, 32 students, 36 early-stage startups, 10 early-stage researchers, and 58 Government entities. *******
