SHRI ANANTA NAYAK: SHRI RAVINDRA SHUKLA ALIAS RAVI KISHAN: Will the Minister of STEEL be pleased to state: (a) the progress made in expanding the national crude steelmaking capacity towards the target of 300 MTPA by 2030; (b) the volume of finished steel consumption recorded across the infrastructure and manufacturing sectors during the first quarter of the last financial year; (c) the implementation status of digital tracking mechanisms and emissions monitoring systems in the steel sector; and (d) whether any steel manufacturing, beneficiation, pelletisation, value-addition, or allied infrastructure projects have been approved, implemented, or proposed in Keonjhar Lok Sabha Constituency, Odisha and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE (SHRI BHUPATHIRAJU SRINIVASA VARMA) MINISTRY OF STEEL (a)to(c): Steel is deregulated sector and hence adoption of any technology including emissions monitoring systems by steel plants depends on market dynamics and their economical feasibility. In Financial Year 2025-26, the country's crude steel production capacity was 220.41 million tonnes (MT) and finished steel consumption for the same financial year was 164.36 MT. Steel demand in India is primarily driven by the Construction sector, which accounts for 37% of total steel consumption, followed by Infrastructure (30%), Engineering, Appliances & Packaging (17%), Automobile (11%), and Other sectors (5%). (d): As of March 31, 2026, 48 steel manufacturing units were operational in the Keonjhar Lok Sabha Constituency, Odisha, with an installed capacity of 64.89 million tonnes per annum. *****
