PROJECT SANCTIONED UNDER INTEGRATED COLD CHAIN AND VALUE
ADDITION INFRASTRUCTURE SCHEME IN KUSHINAGAR
1678. SHRI RATANJIT PRATAP NARAIN SINGH:
Will the Minister of FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES be pleased to state:
(a) the total cold storage capacity available for non-potato crops (vegetables, fruits) in the
Kushinagar district;
(b) the details of the projects sanctioned under the Integrated Cold Chain and Value
Addition Infrastructure scheme in the region;
(c) the measures taken to promote farm-gate cold storage infrastructure powered by solar
energy;
(d) the status of the availability of reefer trucks for transporting fresh produce to the
Varanasi and Lucknow markets; and
(e) Government's plan to reduce the wastage of tomato and green chili crops in the district?

(a): Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been implementing a central sector
umbrella scheme called Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) since 2017-18
across the country. The scheme is demand driven wherein the proposals for extending financial
assistance are invited from time to time from interested entities/ organisations through
Expression of Interest (EoI). Under Operation Greens, a component scheme of PMKSY, the
Ministry is providing financial assistance for value chain development of 10 fruit crops, 11
vegetable crops in the identified production clusters. No project has been approved in the
Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh under the scheme.
(b) to (d): Under Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure scheme, Ministry
has approved 14 projects of Fruits and Vegetable processing in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Out
of this 12 projects have been completed. These projects have created cold storage capacity of
69600 MT and 39 reefer trucks have been approved. Setting up of stand-alone cold storage
facility is not supported under any scheme of the Ministry. Maximum expenditure of Rs. 50.00
lakh on Solar Panel/ equipment per project is considered as eligible for calculating grants-in-
aid/ subsidies under the cold chain scheme.
(e): To reduce wastage of perishable fruits and vegetables including tomato and chilli, there
is a need to process them to make value added products or to be stored in cold storage to
enhance their shelf life. In this regard, Ministry is implementing a Central Sector umbrellascheme namely Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) to provide financial
assistance for setting up of food processing industries and related infrastructure including cold
storage for fruits & vegetables. Ministry provides financial assistance @ 35% of eligible project
cost in general areas and 50% of eligible project cost in Difficult Areas as well as for projects
of SC/ST, FPOs and SHGs for setting up food processing industries and related infrastructure
subject to maximum of Rs. 5 Crore, Rs 10 Crore and Rs. 15 Crore under various component
schemes of PMKSY. PMKSY Scheme is demand driven in nature and applications are invited
through Expression of Interest (EoI) from all over India, including Kushinagar district. Food
processing industries for processing of Tomato and Chilli can also be established under the
Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME)
implemented by this Ministry.
