Promotion of AYUSH Systems in Kerala
4610. Shri Shafi Parambil:
Will the Minister of AYUSH
be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government recognizes Kerala as a major hub of Ayurveda and traditional
medicine in the country and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the total funds allocated and released to the State of Kerala under various AYUSH schemes
during the last five years, scheme-wise and year-wise;
(c) the number of Government AYUSH hospitals, dispensaries and colleges functioning in the
country, State/UT-wise including Kerala;
(d) whether there is any proposal to upgrade such institutions centres of excellence and if so,
the details thereof;
(e) whether the Government proposes to establish any All India Institute of Ayurveda or
national-level research institute in Kerala and if so, the details thereof; and
(f) the steps taken by the Government to promote Kerala’s Ayurveda at the global level
including medical tourism and export of AYUSH products?

(a) No such information is available.
(b) Under the National Ayush Mission (NAM), a Central Sponsored Scheme, financial assistance has been
provided to the State Government of Kerala as per their proposals submitted by them under NAM. The year-
wise details of releases to Kerala during the last five years are as under:

National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), under its Central Sector Scheme on ‘Conservation,
Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants’ supported research activities on
various aspects of medicinal plants including government as well as private universities/research
institutions/organizations across the country. The details are at Annexure I.
Further, a fund of Rs. 9.28 Crore has been allocated to the Ayush Pharmacies in the State of Kerala
under the component “Strengthening and up-gradation of Ayush Pharmacies and Drug Testing
Laboratories to achieve higher standards” of Ayush Oushadhi Gunavatta evam Uttpadan
Samvardhan Yojana (AOGUSY ), a Central Sector Scheme till date to:
1. Kollam District Ayurveda Oushdha Nirmana Vyavasaya Co-operative Society Ltd, Kerela
2. Sitaram Ayurveda Pvt. Ltd, Thrissur, Kerala
3. Pankajakasthuri Herbals India Private Limited, Poovachal, Kerala
4. The Pharmaceutical Corporation (IM) Kerala Ltd., Kuttanellur P.O Thrissur, Kerala
5. Visesh Ayurvedic Pvt. Ltd Pharmacy, Kerala
(c) The details of Government Ayush hospitals, dispensaries and colleges functioning in the country
are at Annexure-II
(d) At present, there is no such proposal
(e) At present, there is no such proposal to establish All India Institute of Ayurveda in Kerala.
However, a Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy (CRIYN) is sanctioned for
establishment in Kerala.
(f) For promotion and propagation of Medical Value Travel (MVT,), Ministry of Ayush has
organized an Ayush-based MVT Summit for the South Zone on 26 May 2025 in Chennai with
participation from the Southern States including Kerala.
Further, Ayush Export Promotion Council (AYUSHEXCIL) has been set up by the Ministry of
Commerce with support from the Ministry of Ayush. It promotes and oversees exports of Ayush
products by addressing trade issues, facilitate capacity building of its members on export
procedures, organizing Business to Business meetings and international events, road shows,
seminars and workshops on the export of Ayush products, and to safeguard the scientific research
in the field of Ayush healthcare.
