ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) MINISTRY OF AYUSH
(SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV)
(a) & (b) The establishment of new Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy
(ASUSR&H) colleges, increase in intake capacity of Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate
(PG) seats and starting of new or higher courses are governed by the provisions of the
National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020 and the National Commission
for Homoeopathy Act, 2020, and the regulations framed thereunder. As per Section 29 of the
National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020 and National Commission for
Homoeopathy Act, 2020, prior permission of the respective Commission is mandatory for
establishment of new medical institutions, starting of new or higher courses, or increase in
admission capacity in existing institutions.
Health being a State subject, proposals for increase in UG and PG seats are to be
initiated by the concerned institutions. Accordingly, increase in seats in ASUSR&H colleges
located in Odisha depends upon proposals submitted by the concerned institutions/State
Government and their compliance with the provisions of the above Acts and Regulations
framed thereunder. Currently, there is no such proposal to increase undergraduate (UG) and
postgraduate (PG) ASUSR&H seats in colleges located in Odisha.
