Parliament Question: Proposal to Start a Textile Mill in Barshi, Solapur for Employment Generation

LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4103 TO BE ANSWERED ON 17.03.2026 PROPOSAL TO START A TEXTILE MILL IN BARSHI, SOLAPUR FOR EMPLOYMENT GENERATION 4103. SHRI OMPRAKASH BHUPALSINH ALIAS PAVAN RAJENIMBALKAR: Will the Minister of TEXTILES वस्त्र मंत्री be pleased to state : (a) whether the Government is aware that the textile mill at Barshi in Solapur district, Maharashtra has remained non-operational for a considerable period; (b) whether the Government proposes to revive and restart the Barshi Textile Mill; (c) whether any proposal has been received from the State Government or private investors for reopening the said mill, if so the details thereof; (d) the details of financial assistance, revival package, or schemes available for restarting closed textile mills in the region; and (e) the details of expected timeline for restarting the mill and generating employment opportunities for local workers? उत्तर ANSWER वस्त्र मंत्री (श्री गिरििाज ग िंह) MINISTER OF TEXTILES (SHRI GIRIRAJ SINGH) (a) to (e): The production activities of all the NTC mills including Barshi Textile Mills in district Solapur along with several other mills in Maharashtra were suspended since March, 2020 due to nationwide lockdown declared by Government of India and respective State Governments due to COVID-19 pandemic. Normal operations were resumed in some of the NTC mills from January, 2021 but could not be continued due to unavailability of working capital and other financial constraints. Necessary action has been taken to settle wages and other dues of employees. ****
