SHRI NARAYAN TATU RANE: Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware that there is no Passport Office/ Passport Seva Kendra in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, if so, the details thereof; (b) whether any proposal to establish a Passport Office/Passport Seva Kendra in said district is under consideration, if so, the details thereof; and (c) the time by which this facility is likely to be made available in the district and the reaction of the Government thereto? 1ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI KIRTI VARDHAN SINGH) (a) to (c) Opening of Passport Offices (POs)/ Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs)/ Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) is an on-going activity and depends upon various factors including scalability of the present PSK/ POPSK, distance from existing POs/ PSKs/ POPSKs, increasing demand/ volume of passport applications from a particular region. The Ministry of External Affairs in association with the Department of Posts (DoP), decided in January 2017 to open Seva Kendras at the Head Post Offices (HPO)/Post Offices (PO) in the country, including in Maharashtra, called Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSK) in each Lok Sabha Constituency (LSC) where there is no PSK or POPSK. Under this initiative, a POPSK is already functional at Rajapur in the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Lok Sabha Constituency and as such, there is no proposal under consideration of the Ministry of Ex- ternal Affairs to open a new PSK/POPSK in Sindhudurg district. ***** 2
