Parliament Question: Remunerative Price for Milk

SHRI RAKESH RATHOR: SHRI RAMVIR SINGH BIDHURI: Will the Minister of FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING मत्स्यपालन, पशुपालन और डेयरी मंत्री be pleased to state: (a) whether the dairy farmers are not receiving remunerative price for their produce due to the significant gap between the procurement price paid to milk producers and the retail price charged to consumers, if so, the reasons therefor; (b) whether the Government has conducted any study of the reasons such as processing, transportation, marketing, intermediaries and other associated costs for such price disparity, if so, the details thereof; (c) whether the Government has any proposals to formulate any policy or develop any mechanism to ensure that dairy farmers receive a fair share of the increase in consumer prices of milk and milk products; (d) the steps being taken by the Government to strengthen cooperative dairies, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), direct marketing, value addition and dairy processing infrastructure with a view to enhancing the income of dairy farmers; and (e) whether any cooperative society from Delhi has also become active on the newly created Milk Supply Review Dashboard Portal, if so, the details thereof including active Societies on the Dashboard Portal? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING (SHRI RAJIV RANJAN SINGH ALIAS LALAN SINGH) (a) to (c) No such report has been received by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India (GoI). Milk prices are determined by the Dairy Cooperatives and Private Dairies based on market conditions. (d) As of June 2026, 36,611 new Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS) have been organised and 34,557 DCS strengthened at the village level with financial assistance under National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), Further, about 168 lakh litres per day (LLPD) ofmilk chilling capacity has been created, and 76,748 quality testing devices distributed. Under Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), projects with a total milk processing and value‑addition capacity of 418 LLPD have been approved in both cooperative and private sectors. (e) As per data on the Milk Supply Review Dashboard Portal, reflected from the National Cooperative Database (NCD), three (3) dairy cooperative societies in Delhi are registered as active societies.
