Parliament Question: Remunerative Price for Milk

SHRI AMRA RAM: SMT. SANDHYA RAY: Will the Minister of FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING मत्स्यपालन, पशुपालन और डेयरी मंत्री be pleased to state: (a) whether livestock farmers are unable to get remunerative price for milk despite adequate potential for milk production in several agriculture-based districts of the country due to insufficient availability of milk processing units, cold storages and value addition facilities; (b) whether any special Scheme is being implemented by the Government for developing modern milk processing and cold chain facilities in milk-producing districts; (c) whether there is any proposal of the Government to include Bhind and Datia districts of Madhya Pradesh under such scheme; (d) if so, the details thereof; (e) the actions being taken by the Government to resolve the issue of farmers not getting remunerative price for milk through dairy while the consumers have to pay double the price to get milk; and (f) whether the Government has formulated any plan to address the issue of rise in cost of animal fodder and animal food day by day while the farmers are not getting the price of milk in the same proportion and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING (SHRI RAJIV RANJAN SINGH ALIAS LALAN SINGH) (a) and (e) No such report has been received by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India (GoI). Milk prices are determined by the Dairy cooperatives and Private Dairies based on market conditions. (b) DAHD, GoI is implementing the following schemes across the country for developing modern milk processing and cold chain facilities: (i) National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) (ii) Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) (c) & (d) Under the NPDD scheme, Bhind and Datia districts have been included for strengthening milk procurement infrastructure. The details are as under:(i) Installation of one Bulk Milk Cooler of 3000 Litre capacity has been approved for Bhind district. (ii) At Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS) level milk collection infrastructure sanctioned for 34 DCSs in Bhind and 14 DCSs in Datia district. No project proposals have been received from Bhind and Datia districts of Madhya Pradesh under AHIDF. (f) Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), GoI is implementing the National Livestock Mission (NLM) to enhance fodder availability by incentivizing entrepreneurship, under which 1.62 lakh tonnes of fodder seeds have been produced and 204 units approved for feed and fodder enterprises. In addition, 100 fodder-centric FPOs have been established across 19 States to strengthen local supply chain and reduce input cost. *****
