ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE FOR COAL AND MINES
(SHRI SATISH CHANDRA DUBEY)
(a) & (b): Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the Ministry of Coal i.e., Coal India
Limited (CIL), Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), and NLC India Limited
(NLCIL), are undertaking renewable energy projects as part of their diversification
strategies. The renewable energy capacity installed and under development by these PSUs are
as under:
Name of PSU Installed Capacity Under Development/ Planned
Coal India Limited ~247 MW (Solar) ~635 MW
Singareni Collieries 245.50 MW (Solar) 259 MW
Company Limited
NLC India Limited 1,783 MW (Solar: 1,732 MW; 1,762 MW (Solar: 1,712 MW;
Wind: 51 MW) Wind: 50 MW)
(c): Coal PSUs have set ambitious renewable energy capacity targets by 2030 in line with
national commitments - CIL (about 9.5 GW); SCCL (about 2.8 GW); and NLCIL (about 10
GW).
1(d): Renewable energy initiatives undertaken by coal PSUs contribute to sustainable
mining and energy transition objectives in the following ways:
(i) Reduction in carbon footprint through adoption of clean energy sources;
(ii) Productive utilization of reclaimed and mined-out land for installation of solar power
projects;
(iii) Diversification of energy portfolio, thereby enhancing long-term energy security;
(iv) Support to national climate commitments, including the goal of achieving net-zero
emissions by 2070;
(v) Promotion of sustainable mining practices through eco-restoration and environmentally
responsible infrastructure;
(vi) Adoption of advanced technologies such as high-efficiency solar modules, battery energy
storage systems, and integration of renewable energy with conventional power generation.
