Will the MINISTER OF NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has implemented or proposes to implement new and renewable
energy projects including solar, wind or hybrid systems in the Lakshadweep Islands;
(b) if so, the details of such projects sanctioned, completed or under implementation during the
last five years; and
(c) the steps taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to ensure reliable, sustainable and
affordable energy supply in the said islands and reducing dependence on diesel-based power
generation?

(a) & (b) Yes, the details of renewable energy projects implemented, and under implementation in
the Lakshadweep Islands are as under:
• A 1.7 MW solar power plant with 1.4 MWh battery energy storage system has been
installed at Kavaratti Island.
• 2.5 MW of rooftop solar power capacity has been installed at various locations across the
Lakshadweep Islands.
• A 9 MW solar power project with 32 MWh battery energy storage system is under
implementation.
(c) An Integrated Report on Greening of the Islands of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep has
been prepared by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in July, 2025. The report outlines a
roadmap for ensuring reliable, sustainable and affordable energy supply in the islands, including
measures for large-scale deployment of renewable energy with energy storage systems, improved
