SHRI MUHAMMED HAMDULLAH SAYEED Will the MINISTER OF NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has implemented or proposes to implement new and renewable energy projects including solar, wind or hybrid systems in the Lakshadweep Islands; (b) if so, the details of such projects sanctioned, completed or under implementation during the last five years; and (c) the steps taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to ensure reliable, sustainable and affordable energy supply in the said islands and reducing dependence on diesel-based power generation? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY AND POWER (SHRI SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK) (a) & (b) Yes, the details of renewable energy projects implemented, and under implementation in the Lakshadweep Islands are as under: • A 1.7 MW solar power plant with 1.4 MWh battery energy storage system has been installed at Kavaratti Island. • 2.5 MW of rooftop solar power capacity has been installed at various locations across the Lakshadweep Islands. • A 9 MW solar power project with 32 MWh battery energy storage system is under implementation.
