Research projects under EMR Scheme
*111 Dr. Anil Sukhdeorao Bonde:
Will the Minister of Ayush be pleased to state:
(a) the number of research projects approved under the Extra Mural Research (EMR) Scheme
till December 2025;
(b) how many of these projects have been licensed for use in the market;
(c) the number of research papers funded by AYURGYAN that got published in international
scientific journals;
(d) whether the Ministry has achieved its target for Continuing Medical Education (CME) by
December 2025; and
(e) if so, the number of AYUSH teachers, doctors and paramedics that have received skill
training during the said period?

(a) to (e) A Statement is laid on the table of the House.

(a) Ministry of Ayush had merged 02 separate erstwhile schemes, namely Re-orientation
Training Program/Continuing Medical Education (RoTP/CME) and Extra Mural Research
(EMR), into a single central sector scheme namely, Ayurgyan from FY 2021-22 having two
components namely (i) Capacity Building & Continuing Medical Education (CME) in Ayush
(ii) Research & Innovation in AYUSH (Erstwhile EMR scheme). Further, Ayurveda Biology
Integrated Health Research (ABIHR) was added under the scheme , as a 3rd component from the
FY 2023-24. The main aim of the scheme is to support Research & Innovation in Ayush by
providing Extra Mural Research activities and Education by providing academic activities,
training, capacity building etc. Under Research & Innovation in Ayush component, 34 research
projects were approved/supported since inception (i.e. 08.06.2021) to 31st December 2025
(details attached at Annexure) for conducting research activities viz pre-clinical, clinical,
fundamental etc.
(b) Research activities under the Scheme are intended to generate evidence related to the
safety and efficacy of drugs and formulations. These formulations are already in the public
domain, and their therapeutic indications are generally recorded in the authorised texts specified
in Schedule-I of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act,1940. The outcomes of these research activities
include publications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), patents, related deliverables, and
are not directly linked to drug licensing.
(c) Under the Research & Innovation component, research projects are supported for a
duration of three years and funds are released on instalment basis. The anticipated outcomes are
realized upon completion of the projects. Under the Research & Innovation component, ongoing
approved projects of the erstwhile Extra Mural Research (EMR) scheme were also
funded/supported. A total no. of 62 research papers has been published in peer-reviewed journals
under R&I component (including Erstwhile EMR) from FY 2021-22 to as on 31st December
2025.
(d) & (e) Yes, since the inception of the Ayurgyan scheme, 257 CME/training programmes have
been supported against the target of 250 CME/training programmes. A total of 7531 Ayush
personnel (i.e Ayush teachers/Doctors/ Paramedics including Researchers) have been trained
against the target of 6100 number of Ayush personnel.
