Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that the University of Delhi has made reservation in appointment to the post
of Principal in the University of Delhi, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(b) the total number of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Principal working in the colleges of
University of Delhi;
(c) whether it is a fact that large number of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates are
eligible for appointment but their appointment is nil, if so, the details thereof;
(d) the total number of Principal posts available in the said University;
(e) whether the said University is planning to give representations to the Scheduled Castes and
Scheduled Tribes in the appointment of post of Principal; and
(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (f): University of Delhi is a statutory autonomous organization established under an Act of
Parliament and governed by the Delhi University Act, 1922 and the Statutes & the Ordinances made
thereunder. The University has informed that there are 90 Colleges in the University and the post of
Principal is a single cadre open post. All eligible candidates irrespective of categories including the
candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are invited to apply for the post.
The appointment of the College Principal is made by the Governing Body on the recommendation
of a Selection Committee under Clause 7(2) of Ordinance XVIII of the University in consideration
of the eligibility criteria/qualifications given under Ordinance XXIV. The Selection Committee
inter-alia consists of an academician representing SC/ ST/ OBC/ Minority/ Women/ PwBD to
safeguard the interest of the people belonging to these categories.
