RURAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TRAINING INSTITUTES UNDER PMEGP
861. SHRI S JAGATHRATCHAKAN:
Will the Minister of MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES be pleased to state:
(a) the number of Rural Self Employment Training Institutes established under Prime Minister's
Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in the State of Tamil Nadu since the launch of the
programme along with the details on the types of training imparted under these centres;
(b) the number of beneficiaries who acquired training under PMEGP scheme in the State of
Tamil Nadu including the specific type of training they acquired over the years since its inception;
(c) the details regarding the number of women beneficiaries under this scheme in Tamil Nadu;
and
(d) whether any mechanism is provided by the Government to assess the aptitude and skill of
beneficiaries after the training, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) are established under National Rural
Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), which is also known as Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National
Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM)], a Scheme of Ministry of Rural Development,
Government of India, to cater the Skill Training needs of rural unemployed youth. The RSETIs,
identified one of the institutions under Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme
(PMEGP), conduct trainings for beneficiaries under PMEGP. Currently, 37 Rural Self Employment
Training Institutes (RSETIs) are functioning in the State of Tamil Nadu. The types of Training
Programmes being conducted by RSETIs is given at Annexure- I.
(b): Since FY 2014-15 to FY 2025-26 (upto 22.07.2025), 56,965 number of beneficiaries have
been provided with Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training in the State of Tamil
Nadu under PMEGP Scheme.
(c): Since inception i.e. FY 2008-09 to FY 2025-26 (up to 22.07.2025), 30,067 no. of women
entrepreneurs have been assisted under PMEGP in Tamil Nadu.
(d): Under PMEGP, there is no mechanism to assess the aptitude and skill of beneficiaries after
the training. However, Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) is provided to
beneficiaries in collaboration with accredited Training Centers run by Central Government
including Rural Self-Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs). EDP training is provided to
potential beneficiaries with the objective to provide orientation and awareness pertaining to various
managerial and operational functions such as finance, production, marketing, enterprise
management, banking formalities, book-keeping, statutory compliances etc. to run their business
effectively. After completion of the EDP training, certificate is issued to successful beneficiaries.
With respect to training conducted by RSETIs, assessment is conducted.
