Parliament Question: Sagarmala Scheme in Karnataka

SHRI KOTA SRINIVASA POOJARY: Will the Minister of PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS be pleased to state: प(cid:419)न, पोत प(cid:464)रवहन और जलमाग (cid:91) म(cid:287)ं ी (a) whether the Government has received any proposals from the Government of Karnataka under the Sagarmala Scheme relating to Operationalisation of Coastal Passenger Ferry Services between Mangalore and Karwar and Integrated Coastal Tourism & Marine Development at Kota Padukere, Udupi District; (b) if so, whether the Government is aware that Karnataka’s 320 km. Karavali coastline has immense potential for marine tourism, water sports and alternate transport for 40 lakh coastal population; (c) if so, whether the Government proposes to examine and accord financial assistance to the said two proposals under the Sagarmala Scheme; and (d) if so, the details thereof and the time by which the proposals are likely to be approved and funds are likely to be sanctioned? ANSWER MINISTER OF PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL) (a) to (b) Yes, Government of Karnataka has submitted proposals enclosing therewith feasibility report for passenger ferry services between Mangaluru to Maravanthe and pre-feasibility study report on Integrated coastal tourism and marina development with ancillary infrastructure at Kota Padukere, Udupi District for consideration of financial assistance under Sagarmala scheme. The said reports cover, inter-alia, potential for marine tourism, water sports and ferry services along the coastline of Karnataka. (c) to (d) The said proposals could not be considered for financial assistance under the existing Sagarmala scheme due to unavailability of fiscal space. *****
