SCHOLARSHIPS SCHEMES FOR MINORITY COMMUNITIES

Will the Minister of MINORITY AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of scholarships sanctioned and disbursed under each scholarship scheme run by
the Government for students belonging to minority communities during the last ten years, year
and community-wise;
(b) the number of eligible applicants who could not get the scholarship, year wise; and
(c) the details of the Budgetary allocation, revised estimates and actual expenditure of the
Government during the last ten years, year-wise?

THE MINISTER OF MINORITY AFFAIRS
(SHRI KIREN RIJIJU)
(a): The Ministry of Minority Affairs implemented the following scholarship schemes for the
educational empowerment of students belonging to the six centrally notified minority
communities, namely Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis:
(i) Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme;
(ii) Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme; and
(iii) Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme.
The schemes were implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) with Direct
Benefit Transfer (DBT) to eligible beneficiaries. The schemes were implemented up to the
academic year 2021-22 and were not approved for implementation beyond 2021-22.
The scheme-wise, community-wise details of scholarships sanctioned/disbursed during
the last ten years is at Annexure-I.
(b): Scholarships under the above schemes were sanctioned subject to fulfilment of the
eligibility criteria prescribed in the respective scheme guidelines and availability of funds. The
Ministry does not maintain a separate database of eligible applicants who could not be
awarded scholarship under the schemes.
(c): The year-wise details of Budget Estimates (BE), Revised Estimates (RE) and Actual
Expenditure under the scholarship schemes during the last ten years is at Annexure-II.Annexure-I
