Scholarships for ST students
6380 Shri Daggumalla Prasada Rao:
Will the Minister of Tribal Affairs be pleased to state:
(a) the details of scholarships provided for students belonging to Scheduled Tribes (STs)
in the country, particularly those intended for pursuing education abroad;
(b) the number of students availing such scholarships since inception, year-wise and
State- wise, including district-wise details for Andhra Pradesh;
(c) the funds released under such schemes since inception, year-wise and State-wise,
including district-wise details for Andhra Pradesh;
(d) the key issues reported in the implementation of such schemes and the measures
taken to address the same; and
(e) the measures taken to increase awareness of such schemes and the funds allocated
for the same?

(a) Ministry of Tribal Affairs implements the following Scholarship Schemes to
promote and encourage secondary and higher education amongst ST population in the
country: -
i) Pre-Matric Scholarship for ST students (Class IX and X)
ii) Post Matric Scholarship for ST students (Class XI and above)
iii) National Fellowship for ST students (NFST). (for Ph.D scholars)
iv) National Scholarship for Higher Education for ST students (Top Class)
v) National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) for ST studentsOut of the schemes mentioned above, the scheme of National Overseas
Scholarship (NOS) for ST students is specifically for the students pursuing education
abroad.
Under the National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) scheme, a total of 20 slots is
available annually for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students. The scheme is applicable to
candidates whose annual family income does not exceed ₹6.00 lakh. The age limit for
applicants is prescribed as per the scheme guidelines (For Master - 32 years, Ph.D - 35
years and for Post-Doctoral Research - 38 years). Furthermore, the scholarship is
admissible for studies taking admission in top 1000 ranked universities as per the latest
QS World University Rankings.
(b) Number of students availing scholarships under above mentioned scholarship
schemes (year-wise, State-wise) for last five years is given at Annexure-I.
Scheme-wise and District-wise Number of students availing scholarships in Andhra
Pradesh for last five years is given at Annexure-II.
(c) Fund released under scholarship schemes (year-wise, State-wise) for last five years
is given at Annexure-III.
Scheme-wise and District-wise fund release for scholarships in Andhra Pradesh for last
five years is given at Annexure-IV.
(d) No specific issue is brought to the notice of the Ministry.
(e) The Ministry is creating awareness about scholarship Schemes through publication in
its official Portal, advertisement in News Papers, through State/UT administration,
Universities & Institutions.Annexure-I
