the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) as on July 31, 2025;
(b) the total amount of Government funding approved and disbursed so far under ISM;
(c) the details of locations where these fabrication units are being set up;
(d) the details of the Indian companies selected for setting up these fabrication units; and
(e) the details of the foreign or domestic technology partners working with each of these
companies?

(a) to (e): Semiconductor manufacturing is a strategic and foundational industry, vital for India’s growth
in the coming decades. Semiconductor chips are critical for manufacturing of many products ranging
from mobile phones to refrigerators and cars to missiles.
As electronics manufacturing expands, developing a strong semiconductor industry becomes essential,
as semiconductors form the core components in electronic devices. The semiconductor ecosystem
includes chip design, fabrication, and packaging. This industry require capital investment for a sustained
period and highly skilled manpower. Chip manufacturing processes also need more than three hundred
different types of specialized gases and chemicals.
India’s semiconductor strategy is comprehensive, covering the entire value chain. It focuses on building
a strong talent base and is guided by the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and “Make in India, Make for the
World.” It builds on the design capabilities in our country.
The Government approved Semicon India programme with a total outlay of ₹76,000 crore for the
development of semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in the country.
As on July 31, 2025, Government has approved 6 semiconductor manufacturing units under this
programme. The details are as follows:1. Micron Semiconductor Technology India Pvt Ltd in Sanand, Gujarat with a total investment
of ₹22,516 crore and their own group technology.
