GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF SCHOOL EDUCATION AND LITERACY LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1364 ANSWERED ON 08.12.2025 Setting up of New KVs and JNVs 1364. Shri Godam Nagesh: Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state: (a) the status of newly sanctioned Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country, State/UT-wise including Telangana; (b) whether the Government is taking steps to improve these schools to international standards; and (c) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY) (a) Proposals for opening of new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) may be sponsored by Ministries or Departments of the Government of India/State Governments/ Union Territories Administrations, with commitment to provide requisite extent of suitable land, free of cost, for construction of the permanent building and suitable rent-free temporary accommodation to run the Vidyalaya till the permanent building is constructed. The Government of India has sanctioned 85 new KVs in December, 2024 and 57 new KVs in October, 2025. State/UT-wise status of these 85 and 57 newly sanctioned KVs is at Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively. The Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme envisages for opening of one Navodaya Vidyalaya (NV) in each district of the country. Opening of new NVs depends on the willingness of the concerned State Government/UT administration to make available requisite suitable land, free of cost, for construction of the permanent building and making available required temporary building, free of rent, to run the Vidyalaya till the permanent building is constructed.Total 28 NVs have been sanctioned across the country in December, 2024. State-wise status of 28 newly sanctioned NVs is at Annexure-III. (b) & (c) Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) are continuously upgrading the infrastructure of KVs and NVs to align with global standards. The following key initiatives have been undertaken by KVS and NVS to bring school infrastructure closer to international benchmarks and creating a modern, student-centric learning environment:  Provision of smart classrooms, upgraded science & ICT laboratories and smart libraries to support digital and experiential learning.  Construction of modern, eco-friendly school buildings following green building norms.  Development of improved sports infrastructure, including basketball and volleyball courts, athletic tracks and other facilities.  Establishment of Atal Tinkering Labs, Skill Labs and well-equipped activity rooms to promote innovation, skill development, and holistic growth.  Upgradation of campus facilities such as sanitary blocks, barrier-free access for CwSN (Divyang) and improved campus landscaping. Further, a range of initiatives has been undertaken in KVs and NVs to progressively align with global best practices and advance towards international standards of excellence, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Sustainable Development Goal, particularly SDG-4: Quality Education. These initiatives broadly include the following key measures:  Improving the Pupil–Teacher Ratio (PTR).  Strengthening project-based and Competency based learning.  Implementing Competency-based assessments for holistic learner development.  Assessment of Students by Olympiads / Global Academic Competitions such as IMO, NSE, STEM/Robotics Olympiads and NAAS for international benchmarking of excellence.  Integration of value education and inclusive education, reinforcing equity and access in line with SDG commitments.  Curriculum is being linked with skill and vocational education, entrepreneurship, and life-skills education to ensure employability and global readiness. Enhancing learning by leveraging digital technologies through smart classrooms, AI- based tools, upgraded laboratories and sports facilities is being expanded across Vidyalayas.  Continuous teacher training and capacity building.  Collaboration through international level programme like SAKURA, YUVA by National Academy of Agriculture Sciences (NAAS), YUVIKA etc.  Promotion of environmental education through Mission LiFE, sustainability practices and global citizenship further support the transformation of academic delivery. In addition, KVs and NVs are being upgraded into exemplary schools under the PM SHRI scheme which is built upon six major pillars: (1) Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment, (2) Access and Infrastructure, (3) Human Resources and School Leadership, (4) Inclusive Practices and Gender Equity, (5) Management, Monitoring and Governance and (6) Beneficiary Satisfaction.
