Parliament Question: Sewage and Septage Management Project in Vijayawada

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3299 TO BE ANSWERED ON MARCH 12, 2026 SEWAGE AND SEPTAGE MANAGEMENT PROJECT IN VIJAYAWADA NO. 3299. SHRI BALASHOWRY VALLABHANENI: Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the date on which a project to provide sewage and septage management to Vijayawada city with an estimated cost of Rupees forty crores in NTR District of Andhra Pradesh was proposed; (b) whether it is a fact that the project is still ongoing; (c) if so, the reasons for delay and the time by which the said project is likely to be completed; and (d) whether there has been any cost or time overrun of the project and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU) (a) to (d): Water and Sanitation is State subject. Government of India supplements the efforts of the States through schematic interventions/ advisories. It provides financial and technical support to the States through various schemes/ Missions such as Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and AMRUT 2.0. Under the Missions, States are empowered to select, appraise, prioritise and implement the projects. Under AMRUT, the State Government of Andhra Pradesh has grounded one sewerage and septage management project in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation of NTR District. The State Government has informed that the project was sanctioned for an amount of ₹39.88 Crore in May, 2017. The work was delayed due to COVID-19 Pandemic, court case on construction of sump cum pump house at Satyanarayanpuram, public objections on another sump cum pump house at Gadde Venkatramayya Nagar, change in original scope of the project for additional works, etc. As informed by the State, the Project is 98% physically completed. 47.60 KM of sewer pipelines network completed, 3 Nos. of Sump cum Pump houses at APIIC Colony, Auto Nagar, Satyanarayanpuram & Gadde Venkatramayya Nagar are completed and put into operation for disposal of collected sewage to the existing Sewage Treatment Plants for onward treatment and 9257 Nos. of House Service Connections completed. The State has informed that the revised date of completion of the project is end of March, 2026. There is no cost overrun in the project. *****
